In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us. (John 1:1,14a)
At Spirit of Life Ministry, we gather weekly to share the story of Jesus. We do this in lots of ways –
through singing, praying, reading the Bible, asking big questions, and sharing the sacraments
(baptism and communion).
Why do we do this? Because when we gather around the story of Jesus, Jesus actually shows up
among us! We encounter the presence of Jesus in all sorts of ways – in the stories, in the taste of
bread and wine, in the music, and in the faces of those around us. In all these ways, God’s Spirit is
moving in our hearts, helping us to know Jesus a bit more, and place our trust in him.
Why does this matter? Wasn’t Jesus just a peasant who lived in Galilee a long time ago? Well, yes,
but we believe that the way Jesus lived his life – the things he taught, the way he healed people
and forgave them, the way he cared for those who were rejected by society, the way he died on a
cross, and the way he rose from the grave – makes a difference in our world. That Jesus transforms
us. That when Jesus shows up, hurt gives way to healing, violence gives way to peace, hatred gives
way to love, and death gives way to new life.
We’d love for you to join us, so that we can share the story of Jesus together, and experience his
life-giving presence among us.
